"Rediscover the Flame of Petroleum", a project co-financed by the Regional Operational Program 2007-2013, Priority Axis 5 - "Sustainable Development and Promotion of Tourism", Key Area of Intervention 5.3 - "Promoting the tourism potential and creating the necessary infrastructure in order to increase Romania's attractiveness As a tourist destination", is part of the local development initiative of the Moreni area and municipality, an initiative of Moreni City Hall that aims to develop the area in terms of tourism and to increase the visibility of attractions for tourists through specific marketing actions .
For all those interested in rediscovering this area of history, Moreni is located in the eastern part of Dâmboviţa County, 22 km from Targoviste Municipality. As a geographical location, Moreni is located in the Târgovişte Plain, along the Cricovul Dulce River. Vegetation encompasses the specific landscape of the area, being rich and varied from areas with overgrown grass vegetation, past the cropland and reaching the deciduous forests that surround the entire area as a girdle. The same is found in Moreni sulphurous waters propitious to the development of wekend tourism and balneal treatments. You will also be delighted by the beautiful wooded forests and the amazing area of the Cricovul Dulce River.
The project proposes the development of an own identity element by cultivating petroleum traditions in the area, popular folk art and preserving the historical heritage of the locality. The two festivals to be held under the project (autumn 2012 and 2013) and participation in fairs and exhibitions will allow the region to use the benefits of cultural heritage and natural resources to improve its benefits Competitive in the tourism sector, both in traditional and new emerging markets.
Although the area was a highly industrialized area, the inhabitants have developed their own crafts and elements of art and folklore specific to the area. These are folk costumes, folk songs and folk dances, traditional customs.
Among the cultural events organized in the area we mention:
Days of Moreni;
The National Petroleum Festival, where pupils from all over the country, their relatives and accompanying teachers attend;
The national motocross competition involving athletes from the country and abroad, coaches and international referees;
Music festivals in the Central Park organized by the municipality or sponsors on the occasion of the city days;
National Festival "Children Save the Blue Planet", organized by the Earth Day, attended by students and teachers from over 30 counties in the country;
The Autumn Festival where the fruits of domestic producers are exposed.
The main objectives of the city are: "The Transfiguration Church" - 1868, "The Assumption of the Virgin Mary and St. Demetrius" (1891-1895) in the Stavropoleos district; War Heroes Monument 1916-1918; Oil drilling and extraction wells and petroleum sites; Museum of Art and Traditions of School No. 1; The historic ruins of the Nemes' Cazemata, and the ruins of connecting tunnels with the city of Ploiesti; Legionary Cross; The municipal stadium with 10,000 seats; Sângeriş hill in Moreni, a natural motocross route, unparalleled in length and difficulty.
